A coding puzzle on a virtual desktop
CODE:SHIFT is a coding puzzle about repairing files on a virtual PC. Finish the three café chapters to open 18 neighborhood jobs across three acts. These short puzzles involve small edits to JSON settings, CSV data, simple HTML and CSS, and other files, followed by result checks. The terminal, repositories, servers, and API traffic are simulated inside the game; this is not a general development environment.
From the café to your own studio
Fit the menu on a phone
The café has the wrong name, and its menu spills beyond the phone screen.
Type the sign name and move the width slider. Save your changes to the files and check that the menu fits the phone.
width: 960px; → width: 100%;Fix the suspicious total
Three coffees priced at 4,500 won each produce a total of 4,503 won.
Type a calculation operator and save it to the file. Change the cup count and serve customers to check the total.
price + quantity → price * quantityConnect the missing orders
A customer places an order, but nothing arrives at the counter.
Fix the menu route and order-storage setting, start the simulated server, and send an API request.
/menu → /api/menu18 neighborhood jobs
Clients need help with box prices, loan limits, contact lists, and other small tool problems.
Choose a client situation and run the current files. Type values from the first six jobs onward. Editing marks the previous run as outdated; run it again, check all cases, choose a reply and deliver. Trying a situation alone gives no completion or reward. Spend earned credits on recovery notes, a second monitor and a studio sign. Default Blue is free; Sunlit Coast, Morning Garden and Studio Apartment are purchasable actual wallpapers. Your replies lead to one of three studio endings.

Connect a title, page width, place address and inquiry storage in your own neighborhood board.
Write short code and send an inquiry in the preview. Check the files, build 1.0.0 and release it to receive the final letter.

Find bugs behind duplicate charges, missing orders and stale menus.
Write actual functions, from arithmetic to conditions, loops, arrays, retries and cache expiry. Test another input set or create your own counterexample in the extra challenge. Choose any job directly.

Practice totals, discount boundaries, stock checks, delivery fees, routes, and screen width.
Change an incorrect rule and compare results across several cases. These exercises are optional and do not gate café or career completion.

Read, repair, check, and deliver
Learn together starts with typing the sign, moving a width slider, typing an operator and menu address, and setting order storage. Minseo helps with cafe setup and delivery. Work directly uses the apps and terminal, and starts later jobs and the final project in full code editing. You can switch to editing one part at a time. After choosing and completing four of six jobs in each district (12 total), edit and check your own app, build version 1.0.0, and release it to open the final letter.
Your next action stays on screen
Change one part at a time and see its result. Open hints when you need them; they never reduce rewards. In later jobs, examples chosen through Help only fill an input draft. Apply, check and deliver it yourself. Switch to full code at any time, with autocomplete, undo and terminal history. Both play styles change the same files and follow the same checks and release rules.

Browser and saving
- Use a current browser with JavaScript and browser storage enabled. The campaign has been checked in desktop Chrome; every browser and device combination has not been verified.
- A computer with a keyboard and mouse is recommended. A small-screen layout is available and some controls support touch. Gamepad support is not included.
- An internet connection is required to load the page. In-game installation, Git, and network commands do not install software on your computer or change real servers.
- Progress saves automatically in the current browser. Export and import a JSON backup in Settings. Clearing site data may remove progress. It does not automatically sync to another device.
- A desktop edition candidate is being prepared separately from the web version. This does not mean a finished desktop or Steam release is available.
Questions before you play
- Can I start without knowing code?
- The game is designed for newcomers and provides guidance for the next action and edit location. We have not yet measured novice understanding, educational outcomes, or completion rates.
- Is it free? Do I need an account?
- The current browser version offers all content for free with no signup. Once the game is actually available to buy on Steam, we plan to turn the web version into a free demo of the three cafe chapters, with the full campaign in the paid edition. The web limit is not implemented yet. Credits are simulated funds used inside the game.
- Can I play on Steam?
- The chosen Korean base price is KRW 11,000. The launch discount awaits a final choice. The price is not applied on Steam. This game is not registered there, real Steam operation is unverified, and a release date is not confirmed.
- Which languages are supported?
- Choose Korean, English, or Japanese UI from the title screen or Settings. Code, commands, and filenames keep their original spelling.
- Does it run commands on my computer?
- The terminal and servers modify simulated game state. The game provides an HTML/CSS preview, a limited JavaScript interpreter, and arithmetic and configuration checks, rather than a general development environment or operating system. It does not call an external AI/LLM service.
- How long is it? Is there an age rating?
- Play time for complete beginners has not been measured. The design targets coding newcomers around age 15; that does not represent an official age classification.
